| Bio: |  My mother tried to teach me to crochet for 2 decades and I failed gloriously every time. Then my grandmother tried to teach me to knit, and I pretty much failed gloriously at that. I was ready to label myself as yarn-handicapped, but first I gave it one last shot. Within hours of picking up Stitch 'N Bitch, I was a knitter. I always meant to buy The Happy Hooker and see if Debbie Stoller could work her magic on my crochet ineptitude as well. After putting it off due to not having enough time for even the knitting I wanted to do, I finally got the book, learned all the basic stitches in one night, and then got a bit...hooked (pun intended) on crocheted bath puffs. As in, I've made over a dozen of them so far and show no signs of stopping. Oops. Mom keeps marveling at what I've learned about yarn in so little time (compared to her many decades of crocheting without touching anything but acrylic), but learning has it's consequences: I've now acquired the Stash of Doom (over 22 miles at last count) and gone from being a one-project-at-a-time knitter to having a pile of WIPs on my dresser (and in my knitting bag, and hiding under my desk...) I'm starting to venture into design, having written one very basic pattern, being in the process of knitting the prototype for a somewhat less basic pattern, and having three significantly less basic pattern ideas developing in my head. I've started to consider doing the TKGA Master Hand Knitter Program, at least the first level, but don't plan to start until next summer when I've been knitting for two years. Also, I'll have free time then. I volunteer around Ravelry, as a pattern editor. Mostly I have periods of going bonkers and submitting all the patterns from a source that I have on hand, but I do occasionally tidy up other people's submissions. Also I answer questions on the forums occasionally, and make Casey want to tear out his hair by spewing suggestions in inappropriate places. | ||
